Roope Juhani Tamminen (born 3 April 1989),[1][2] also known as Hypnohustler, HypnoGames, or simply Hypno, is a Finnish game developer, and the creator of the Lakeview Cabin games.
Creating Lakeview Cabin
Having developed other indie games, such as Barbarium and Quantum Corps,[3] Tamminen started developing a game called Lakeview Cabin. According to him, the game was initially going to be a game where the playable character had to pose for a beer commercial but he opted to make it into a slasher game instead.[4] Lakeview Cabin was released in October 2013 and quickly became popular, being played by YouTubers such as PewDiePie (with his gameplay video reaching five million views).
Deciding to make a sequel, Tamminen developed Lakeview Cabin Collection, which consisted of a hub level leading to four levels (or "movies"). The first level was released in March 2015, with the final level being released in May 2016 alongside an epilogue. A Christmas-themed minigame entitled Last Christmas was made available through another area of the hub level in December 2017.
Moving on to another project for a game called Scumquest, Tamminen eventually put the game's development on hold to start working on Lakeview Valley, which was released in October 2019. He then began working on Lakeview Cabin 2, which was fully released in October 2023.
Trivia
- The idea of Eleanor as an antagonist came about due to Tamminen's fears that surrounded his becoming a father, as his wife was pregnant during the development of Lakeview Cabin.[5]
- As a fan of the horror film genre since his youth, Tamminen easily found inspiration for making the Lakeview Cabin games.
